TRFC: Rover to you 21/01/15

A Futsal and Education Scholarship programme will be started by Tranmere Rovers FC

Tranmere Rovers are set to bring a touch of South America to Wirral with a new Futsal and Education Scholarship programme at Prenton Park.

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA.

The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game.

Many of the top world class footballers played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development; players of the calibre of Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi to name but a few of the South American legends all played and enjoyed Futsal. But Futsal has not just helped produce South American football stars, on the European stage Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Xavi, Fabregas amongst many others have played Futsal to develop their skills.

The one year course at Prenton Park will commence in the new academic year starting in September 2015 and the Club has now begun the recruitment process locally. We will be recruiting between 14-16 students aged from 16-18 years old. If you are interested contact the Community team on 0151 608 2354.

Following an initial expression of interest in 2011 and recent lengthy discussions with the Football League Trust we have finally been given the go ahead to run flagship education programme.

The course, administered nationally by the Football League Trust with tvseducation providing the learning platform, consists of eight to ten hours of education and eight hours of Futsal a week with four of those hours being team play in a fortnightly league taking place at a central North West venue.

All students will study a level 2 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport. The course also offers the opportunity for vocational qualifications, such as level 1 and level 2 football coaching and level 1 Futsal coaching thus giving the opportunity for a career in football coaching.

Work experience placements may also be offered to students showing promise.

Families welcome

Wirral parents are being offered the chance to watch live football at Prenton Park with their kids for just £20.

Tranmere's new ticket offer allows a parent to bring two Under-17s to the match for only £20 a game in the Family Paddock, starting at the home fixture against Hartlepool United on Saturday, January 24, kick off 3pm.
